I have teamed up with Rural Aid to record a new version of one of the greatest folk ballads of all time: Carole King’s 1971 signature song ‘You’ve Got a Friend’. Recorded especially “for our mates in the bushâ€.
The talents of indie-pop artist Jem Cassar-Daley have dazzled the Australian music scene since her debut in 2021. Jem's debut EP. I Don't Know Who to Call is a devastatingly gorgeous collection of all of the singer-songwriter's works to date. Featuring previous singles "Letting Go," "Changes," "Like it More" and “Oh No†which have quickly gained her notoriety and adoration. The EP's genesis is suitably wholesome and Jem thanks all those who helped make it possible. "This project is very close to my heart... Its personal, raw and like a glimpse into my personal journal. It was also an EP that was only made possible with the help of my family and I am so fortunate to be surrounded by such supportive and inspiring people to pull it all together. The cover is a pastel drawing of my Grandma’s home drawn by her and my dad features on a few of the tracks and helped me to coproduce. I hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making it!" Jem’s captivating performances, stellar vocals and timeless songwriting have earned her the Indigenous Award at the 2022 Queensland Music Awards, along with the New Talent of the Year award at the 2022 NIMA's, plus a debut headline Queensland tour, impressive Spotify and Apple editorial playlist support, nationwide press, and a spot on several festival line ups this year. The young talent has come into her own as a contemporary artist, with a world class sound that is a unique combination drawing from favourites like Missy Higgins, Phoebe Bridgers, Angus and Julia Stone, and Carole King. As imagined, the result is a gorgeously diverse soundscape of soul, indie, pop grooves. Make sure you see this immeasurable new talent for yourself. Produced by Roy Nien
‘Oh No’ was written at APRA SONGHUBS on the Gold coast in 2021 with Ali Barter and Tom Eggert. It’s got such a great pop vibe and an addictive melody. Rare Squid have captured the fun and quirkiness in this tune perfectly! Oh No was produced by Tom Eggert Video Produced by Rare Squid Creative - instagram.com/raresquidcreative
After the release of her successful first single "Letting Go", Jem is back with an incredible follow up in her latest single "Changes". "Changes" delves deep into the idea of changes in relationships and life itself and how we learn to deal with these often unexpected circumstances. Backed by melodic keys and a serenading guitar, "Changes" is an extremely powerful track, which displays a different side to Jem's artistic talent and shows a strong sense of maturity within her work. The track was birthed from a studio session between Jem, Brooke Toai and James Angus, who also produced and mixed the song. Produced by Rare Squid Creative - instagram.com/raresquidcreative
